Y6 Transition to Secondary School

13 May 2013

Dear Parents

With the end of your child’s Primary schooling close at hand, we are making available two special days for your child to explore life in the Secondary School. These taster days will take place on Wednesday 22 May and Thursday 23 May of next week.

Following the National Anthem students will attend the first of many Secondary School assemblies, then escorted to the Secondary School where they will be greeted by a member of staff and the programme for the days ahead explained. Over the next two days your child will attend lessons as apprentice secondary students. We believe that these days are beneficial and rewarding for students, parents and staff.

Information on School Improvements Series

Health and safety Focus

Dear Parents

With so much school improvement in progress through school self-review process, I thought I would send you a series of letters outlining the various school improvements that you should probably be aware of.

In April 2012 a Health and Safety Committee was convened at CES.  The Committee comprises of senior leadership, support staff and a representative from the ESOL board.  The objective that the committee set out to achieve was to create a set of policies which would define the purpose of procedures, roles and responsibilities of all members of the school community in keeping CES and safe and happy learning environment in which there is a continuous culture of vigilance. In order to achieve this objective, the committee focuses on 4 key areas:

1. Buildings, Facilities and Maintenance

2. Educational Visit Safety

3. Crisis Management

4. Keeping Safe 

This sub-committee works to a set of Health and Safety standards issued by the Council of International Schools. Whilst there is still work to do, a huge amount has been achieved in the last year. Some of the committee’s major accomplishments include: 

• Designing risk assessment procedures for educational trips
• Devising and testing fire evacuation procedures
• Installing a school wide PA system to ensure the school community could be alerted of the need for a lockdown
• Improving the way children's medical conditions are communicated with teachers
• Training and testing of our bus drivers
• Issuing ID badges for all adults on the premises
• Training and testing of our security team
• Implementing a computerised system to log and track regular maintenance checks
• Ensuring all chemicals and equipment needed for lessons is stored safely
• Planning actions needed in crisis situations such as outbreaks of contagious diseases like bird flu, evacuation of the campus and responding to road traffic accidents

A huge amount of general maintenance tasks and upgrades have occurred week after week. We are very lucky to be so well supported by our maintenance team, who work tirelessly to ensure the safety of everyone on the CES campus.  We are also very fortunate that ESOL are so dedicated to ensuring the safety of all children, staff, parents and visitors at CES.  Thanks to the work of this committee, Health and Safety standards at CES continue to be BTB.

After School Activities (ASA)

Important Notice

Dear Parents/Guardians,

This is a letter to signal that ASA’s will operate as normal on 19^th May and the 2^nd of June (last day for ASA’s). However ASA’s will not be operating on Sunday the 26^th of May and on this day we expect all students to catch the early bus or be picked up no later than 3.30pm. Apologies for any inconvenience this may have caused.

End of Year Parent Assembly - Foundation Stage 

Dear Parents,

On Thursday 16^th May 2013, we will be holding our annual end of year parent assemblies in the auditorium!

FS1 will begin their presentation to parents at 8:30 am and will last approximately one hour.

FS2 will begin their presentation at 1:15pm and will last approximately 1 hour 30 minutes.

All FS children will be performing an assortment of rhymes and songs related to the themes we have been exploring this year. The staff and children are working very hard to create a wonderful celebration of learning for you to enjoy.
FS2 children will also receive their Graduation Certificates. We request that all children attend that day in complete FS school uniform not PE clothes.

Please remember:

Turn off your mobile phones - the children have worked very hard and it is important to give them your undivided attention.

Remain seated - you may take photos, but please remain in your place.

Please arrive promptly for your child’s presentation - late comers can be distracting.

Please note: If younger siblings are attending, kindly ensure they stay seated and quiet so as not to disturb other people’s enjoyment.

Tuesday 18^th June 2013, the FS children will be celebrating the end of a wonderful year by holding class parties. Parents are kindly requested to send in small amounts of finger foods such as sandwiches, pizza, cheese cubes, fruits and vegetables (for teachers to wash and cut up) or small cakes, etc.

Wednesday 19^th June 2013, is the last day for students and FS children will take home their end of year Reports.
