Mission, Vision and Guiding Statements

Mission
We empower every student to grow as a successful learner, a confident individual and a responsible citizen, through purposeful teaching, meaningful relationships and a culture of high expectations.
Vision
A learning community that nurtures proud, resilient and principled learners who participate fully, learn with purpose and succeed confidently in a global future.
Statement of Respect
Cairo English School is a respectful, inclusive community shaped by the diversity of our families, students and staff. We take pride in our Egyptian heritage while valuing the perspectives and experiences that different cultures bring to our school. We are committed to creating an environment where every student feels seen, heard and supported, and where cultural understanding is strengthened through authentic learning experiences and daily interactions rooted in respect.
Learning Commitments

At CES, we believe students thrive when learning is grounded in purposeful relationships, clear expectations and the right level of challenge. Our Learning Commitments — Positive Relationships, High Expectations and Personalised Challenge — define the daily experience of every learner.

We build strong, positive relationships so students feel known and valued. We set clear expectations and help students develop the skills they need to meet them.
And we ensure every child is appropriately challenged, using ongoing assessment and the IB Approaches to Learning to build confidence, independence and resilience. Together, these commitments shape our routines, our language and our decisions, creating a shared learning culture where every learner is known, challenged and supported.
Aligned with our mission, vision and the IB philosophy, our Learning Commitments reflect the values of our community. Together, we are shaping tomorrow and building a school where every learner moves forward with confidence.
Positive Relationships
Forging relationships that support learning

We build the conditions for learning through strong, respectful relationships between students, staff and families.
At CES, learning begins with relationships. Students learn best when they feel known, valued and understood. Through consistent routines, inclusive language and regular opportunities to connect, we create a culture where students feel secure enough to participate fully and take academic risks.
Positive relationships also shape how we help students develop the IB Approaches to Learning, particularly communication, collaboration and social-emotional skills. These skills are strengthened through daily interactions that model respect, empathy and constructive dialogue.
Our shared approach to behaviour — noticing, interrupting, redirecting and educating with clarity and care — builds trust across the community and ensures every student experiences supportive conditions for learning.
High Expectations
Setting ambitious goals for every learner

We set clear, consistent and ambitious expectations so every student can achieve meaningful progress.
Students rise to high expectations. At CES, we make these expectations visible through our routines, modelling and language. Teachers communicate what successful learning looks like and guide students in meeting those expectations with confidence.
High expectations are made tangible through our IB Approaches to Learning, especially thinking, research and self-management skills. Retrieval practice, formative assessment and structured reflection help students understand how to plan, monitor and evaluate their progress.
This shared culture of high expectations helps students recognise that improvement is possible, progress is measurable and success is achievable for every learner.
Personalised Challenge
Advancing learning through rigour

We tailor support and stretch so every student engages with learning that is achievable, purposeful and appropriately demanding.
At CES, we ensure each student receives the level of academic challenge that matches their current stage of learning. Teachers use formative assessment, data and collaborative target setting to understand what each learner needs next.
Challenge may involve scaffolding or extension, depending on the student’s profile. Through intentional teaching using the IB Approaches to Learning, particularly self-management, thinking and metacognitive skills, students learn how to respond productively to challenge and take increasing ownership of their learning.
This approach strengthens resilience, independence and a genuine sense of achievement, helping every learner move forward with rigour and purpose.
CES Learning Commitments × IB Learner Profile
Our CES Learning Commitments broadly reflect the IB Learning Philosophy, ensuring coherence across curriculum, pedagogy and the development of the Approaches to Learning.

CES Attributes
In addition to our formal Learning Commitments, CES nurtures a culture of personal character and wellbeing through monthly CES Attributes. These values—such as joy, patience, kindness and self-control—help students reflect on how they grow as individuals and community members.
